About Ishpeming

Welcome to Ishpeming, Michigan!

We are a close-knit community nestled in Marquette County in the Upper Penninsula of Michigan. First booming because of the discovery of iron ore, Ishpeming has grown to attract 6,600 Hematites from all walks of life looking for different opportunities. This area was first dubbed The Lake Superior Location but was later changed to Ishpeming, a Chippewa Indian name meaning "On the Summit."

Ishpeming has many fun and interesting things to offer no matter what the season may be. There is the annual St. Rocco's Italian fest in the summer or the Noquemanon Ski Race that trails throughout our town in the winter. Our town may be small, but we know how to have fun!

We are eager to share with you our favorite aspects of Ishpeming. You will soon learn what makes a Hematite a Hematite, information on the community, schools, history, and other points of interest are now fully available to you. Enjoy!
